Welcome to A to Z of Healing with Isheeria’s Healing Circles.
[I] is for Incense
Incense sticks have been used for centuries in religious and spiritual rituals. Whether it is in Hinduism or Budhism, you find the use of incense as a powerful component of the praying rituals. It is actually, one of the 16 ways of offering worship.
Incense sticks, dhoop, camphor, smudge, etc all belong to the category of ‘fragrant-smoking-substances’ (term coined by me).
Incense sticks are a wonderful feel-good way of Healing our lives – How you ask.
Well, the smoke from these incense sticks are used for Clearing and cleansing spaces and Purification.
They work on stagnant and negative energies in the space, and spread goodwill, peace and contentment.
They also work on the aura of the people living or even visiting that space.
They work at the vibrational level. The burning of incense sticks (or dhoop or cones, etc) generate positive magnetic vibrations which destroy negative feelings and promote health.
Many people use it as part of their Meditation rituals, or use it for clearing space for Healings.
Many people also light incense around their homes for creating a fragrant environment
A beautiful and visually stunning ritual is that of burning smudge, camphor etc during Durga Puja and also during the Arti (Prayer ritual) on the river banks of the Ganges – Everyone who has ever attended these functions has always felt the impact deeply.
Offcourse, each different incence has a different fragrance, is made of different ingredients, and hence has a different purpose.
For example, Regular use of Sandalwood incense is helpful for healthy life and for Happiness in the Family Life.
Like every Human Being, even Gods & Godesses have their preferred fragrances, and hence when praying to these Gods or invoking their blessings or their attributes, we should use the right fragrance.
For Example, for Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi, use Chandan.
It is believed, that as far as the air carries the fragrance from the burning of incenses, the Blessings of Prayers and the Cleansing & Purification qualities of incense carries and affects all the areas, spaces and people that come in contact with such air.
Do you burn incense in your homes and offices? Which is your favourite fragrance?
Blessed Be!

I love incense! I even have incense matches. They happen to be cherry. I like to use those when I’m using candles but want a light scent rather than burning a whole incense stick. My current stick scent is Rose, but I don’t have a particular favorite. Many of them work nicely to set the mood for writing in my office.

Incense matches? Wow, never seen them here… 🙂 Yes, they do set the mood, and help one get into the ‘productive zone’. Thanks for visiting Jean 🙂
I am in love with fragrance and apart from burning camphor at home, I use lavendar and jasmine copiously in the incense variety and also burn havan samagri from time to time to cleanse the house!!!

I love incense sticks! It’s part of my evening ritual, to burn a stick of incense once I’m back from work. I also smudge the house every new and full moon – instant energy lift!
Absolutely agree on the energy lift 🙂 Thank you for visiting.
I love incense sticks made of chandan. They do make the room smell great.
Yes, it’s another favorite go-to 🙂 It is used extensively in hindu prayer rituals and temples.
Oh yes we have incense burning at home at prayer time in the morning and at sunset. My favourite fragrance is Jasmine….
It has a lovely sense of peace & contentment. Thanks 🙂
I simply love incense sticks. I burn them in the morning as a ritual for meditation as well as for good vibes at home. Incense sticks are always on my priority shopping list when I’m visiting places with spiritual influences like Bali and Pondicherry.
Yes, I tend to shop for them too 🙂 thanks for 🙂
Incense sticks are my favourites. Anything to uplift the body, mind and soul. I use them liberally and we have a camphor lamp that we burn all the time at home.
I’m a big one for aroma oils too. Fragrances can elevate us no end. I’m just going to go light my favourite incense now. Thank you for the reminder. Also would be nice if you did a post on different attributes and of different fragrances.
Love my incense sticks!!
I never burn incense in my house but there are certain types of incense that are pleasant to smell. I would love to learn more about different types of incense and how they help in the healing process.
I love Agarbatti and Dhoop and light them, alternatively, every evening. I honestly light the fragrances I love, not considering God’s preferences even for a moment :))))
Gugal and Loban are my personal favorite ‘cleansers’ that drive negativity away
I love incense sticks, and part of our ritual is to light sandalwood incense(my personal favourite), during morning prayers and then taking them around the house in each room.
