Welcome to A to Z of Healing with Isheeria’s Healing Circles.
[H] is for Hypnotherapy
Hypnotism is derived from the Greek word ‘hypnos’ meaning induced state of sleep where the subject/patient acts on external suggestion.
Thanks to popular cinema and stage-hypnosis shows in the 18th century, many myths abound about Hypnotism. Rarely has there been a focus or popularization of the Therapeutic aspects of Hypnosis.
Hypnotism is an ancient discipline, which was developed by the sages to develop their power for concentration and it has now evolved into an alternative form of Therapy and Healing.
Hypnotherapy using hypnosis to delve into the recesses of the mind, the inner self and realize all potential existing. It creates sub-conscious change – wherein there is a change in the person on the inside, in terms of what co-relation they see in a habit or action, and helps them change and create new thoughts, habits, actions and behaviours. It is an excellent tool for helping a person alter their behaviour patterns.
Hypnotherapy can help change how a person feels about themselves, others or certain things.
There are many methods to do hypnosis, but the success of any method depends on the openness and acceptance of the patient. Once the patient is open to the suggestions by the Hypnotherapist, they can work on Healing.
Hypnotherapy has long been used in Childbirth, to help reduce the anxiety, pain and discomfort of the mother.
Psychiatric treatments use this therapy to treat hysteria, anxiety, depression, habit disorders, control irrational fears, insomnia, addiction, and most importantly change the story we tell ourselves.
What’s your take on this? Have you seen or heard of the therapy?
Blessed Be!

I was hypnotized in college as part of a psychology experiment. It’s an interesting experience, nothing like what you see in the movies or TV.
Sounds wonderful! Yes, it is very different! I hope you will share your experiences, perhaps in a post someday 🙂 Thank yo for visiting.
This is interesting. I always related hypnosis to magic!
Thanks for visiting Simran 🙂
hey Ishieta,I seriously didn’t know about the healing properties of hypnotherapy except the fact that they are used to go on previous life. Thanks for sharing the information.
Most welcome G 🙂 thank you for visiting.
Most welcome G 🙂 Thank you for visiting.
My knowledge of hypnotism is limited only to movies and TV serials, which I am sure is based on a lot of myth. The topic sounds very intriguing… I didn’t know it can be used to heal disorders as well.
Yes, it actually started off as a magnetic healing method, and then developed into a psychiatric tool. It was made popular more by stage artists who dramatized certain aspects for publicizing & popularizing it – hence, the myths :)Thanks Rajlakshmi for visiting.
I’ve heard of it, but never taken part in it. That picture makes me dizzy! 🙂

Theme: Peregrination Chronicles (travel)
I is for innovation or Jugaad which we Indians are very famous for #atozchallenge
I can understand that. But the best part, which isn’t so popular is that YOU have to be open to the suggestibility in order for the suggestions to have any long term impact on you. Thanks for visiting 🙂
I watched the reality show that used hypnotism – i forgot the name though! But i thought it was all scripted! I don’t even know if i want to get hypnotized.
I have never tried Hypnosis myself but know people who have benefitted immensely from it. Your theme is spreading awareness and busting myths. Great going, Ish!
Thanks M 🙂 I am so happy that you are enjoying the series.
I would love to be hypnotized and see what happens! 😉
This is really interesting. I’ve never been hypnotized before. Hmmm. Have always wanted to try!
The picture you have used is the most popular one for meditation and self- hypnosis. I had forgotten all about it. Thank you for the reminder. For meditation just focus on the picture till all else disappears and you are in a void. For self-hypnosis stare at the picture and chant your affirmation. You’ll be surprised at the results!!
