Welcome to A to Z of Healing with Isheeria’s Healing Circles.
[V] is for VASTU SHASTRA
Vastu Shastra (pronounced as Vaastu) is an ancient science, which has been mentioned in the Vedas. Originally it was studied as part of Astrology along with Astronomy.
It is a traditional Hindu system of architecture, which helps us live in harmony with our environment.
Vastu Shastra is based on the environment, the directions. And is specific to a place not a person. Therefore, the purpose of the building, its directions and location are of paramount importance.
The principals of Vastu are laid down, and must be adhered to. There are no alternative solutions. The solutions are only by changing the environment or by removal of the obstruction.
For example, if the Vastu Shastra consultant tells you that the water tank needs to be removed, then it must be moved to its appropriate sector, there is no solution wherein you can let it remain there.
Now days, to appease the client, a lot of Vastu practitioners are giving solutions based on Feng Shui & adding a touch of the Indian symbology to it.
What I find very fascinating is that in Vastu Shastra, there are specific rules, for example, if the building is for residential or commercial or religious purpose, then the shapes, directions, etc are different, and specific for the purpose.
Vastu Shastra has been imbedded in our culture, that without realising it even we use the principles in our lives.
We are not even aware of these, and yet, they are a part of our decision- making process, they are a part of our belief system.
For example, if the plot is gau-mukhi (cow shaped – smaller in the front, bigger in the back) – this is very auspicious for building for residential purpose.
Where as if it is sher – mukhi (lion shaped – front being bigger than the back) – this plot of land is more auspicious and suitable for commercial purposes.
It is an interesting science, and all (most) buildings in India are designed and built on the Vastu Shastra principles.
What has been your experience with Vastu Shastra?
Blessed Be!
