Spread the love

Welcome to my birthday carnival exploring the question –

Theme isheeria celebrations

Do I deserve to be happy?

Happiness is like a perfume, a very individual choice. The perfume we may like and wear might seem too strong or too light to someone else. The fragrance we love might seem offensive to another. Similarly, what makes you happy might not be agreeable to people around you.

What do you do then? Change your choices, or change yourself?

It is funny how when confronted with these choices most people never pause to ask themselves why is it that they need to change, themselves or their choices. Speaking for myself I have never questioned it either and always change both, myself and my choices. Only to earn badges like adjusting, mature, sensible in return. Badges which seem prestigious victories when handed out but slowly turn meaningless and a burden to sport after a while.

For the longest time I believed that my happiness depended on making people all around me happy. Till wisdom gently but surely nudged away foolishness, bringing with it a realisation that making everyone around me happy was a task without end and if I would depend on seeking happiness based on that then it would be out of reach, always.

So, do I deserve to happy? Just plain happy, without any tags, or conditions attached, or any barters looming in the background?

Yes, I do.

I deserve to be happy as being happy is as essential as breathing. And pure unadulterated happiness, that springs from within and blooms in my soul is what I strive for as I work towards creating it.

I deserve to be happy as it should be the state of being we should all aim for. Happy people make a happy world and as my wise Mother always says, ‘Pray for everyone’s happiness, even the people who may have taken away yours, as only when people are happy would they let others be happy.’

I love her wit & humour & writing! & oh-those- husband chronicles she shares … a MUST read!

Thank you M for being a part of my birthday celebrations 🙂
