Mahashivratri is known as the night of awakening! As there is a powerful upsurge in the energies in the body due to the planetary positions on this night, which is considered the darkest night of the year, If you maintain wakefulness and awareness, it brings a sense of well-being (physical and spiritual) to your life.

On this night of Mahashivratri, it is believed that Lord Shiva performs the heavenly dance of Creation- Preservation and Destruction.
Devotees fast today, offer fruits, leaves, sweet and milk to Lord shiva and recite the mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” as they pray and sit/stay upright through the night.

Very informative article dear. some of these facts about Maha shivratri I knew already and some were new to me. indeed this is one of great spiritual festival of india and I have many beautiful memories of celebrating this with my family in childhood.
