There is a very strong connection between us and our environment. Once you understand this concept and the relation between directions and elements, you will, to quite an extent, be able to work on your problems.
These notes are general pointers and are based on the principles of Eight Mansions Feng Shui. For a personalized Feng Shui or Astro- Vastu consultation please contact us at [email protected] or drop us a message on Instagram at: Instagram.com/1.isheeria
To begin, first confirm the directions of your house. Do not go by an approximate idea, as this would completely defeat your purpose. Stand in the centre of your house and with a compass work out the directions. Note down the position in your house where the compass points to 0 degree, 90 degree, 180 degree, 270 degree.
These will correspond to the cardinal directions:
0 degree = North,
90 degree =East,
180 degree =South,
270 degree = West.
Then work out where in your house the compass is indicating 45 degrees, 135 degrees, 225 degrees, and 315 degrees.
These will correspond to the ordinal directions:
45 degree =North-East,
135 degree = South-East,
225 degree =South-West,
315 degree = North-West.
Work these direction points from the centre of your house to the boundary walls of your house, dividing up the house into a pie shape, with each of these degrees coming in the centre of a pie slice.
Work these direction points from the centre of your house to the boundary walls of your house, dividing up the house into a pie shape, with each of these degrees coming in the centre of a pie slice.
The range of directions:
North : 337’5 -22’5 degrees
North-East : 22’5 -67’5 degrees
East : 67’5 -112’5 degrees
South-East : 112’5 -157’5 degrees
South : 157’5 -202’5 degrees
South-West : 202’5 -247’5 degrees
West : 247’5 -292’5 degrees
North-West : 292’5 -337’5 degrees

Before beginning on this step, you should have completed the earlier ones of Cleansing, Purification, & Empowering.
Now we can begin to work on each individual direction
The most important area of your house is the Centre Sector. This is especially so if you have an open floor plan. The energy of this area permeates to all corners of your house. Even if all the directions in your house are correct, if the Centre Sector is incorrect, it will spoil the energy of the whole house.
According to Feng Shui this is the point of Unity, of Tai Chi. According to Vastu Shastra this is your Bhagya Sthan (Place of Luck). Keep this area free of clutter.
The Centre Sector belongs to the Earth element.
Adding Earth tones- yellow, cream, beige, and items of pottery, ceramic, crystals, stone, etc are beneficial.
As are red, orange, pink, purple colours. Keeping a balance of the Elements is essential (we will discuss more on this later).
Placing a happy, smiling photograph of the whole family, preferably all together, in this sector is very auspicious.
Another area of equal importance is the Entrance of your house. The more attractive and inviting it is, the more positive will be the vibrations and energy of your house. Work on this area of your house as per the direction it falls in.
NOTE: Do not keep plants on the right side of your main door (right side when you are standing inside your house, looking out). This is very important.

The North Sector is for your Career. This belongs to the Water element. Adding blue, black colour is beneficial. As are metallic colours. Keep water feature in this sector- scenery of water, fountains, aquarium, pond etc.
NOTE: It is very important that the water element is in proportion to the space. Do not add the Water element in your bedroom without the advice of a Feng Shui consultant.
The North-East sector is for your mentors, for those who you are close to. This belongs to the Earth element. Adding Earth tones- yellow, cream, beige, and items of pottery, ceramic, crystals, stone, etc are beneficial. As are red, orange, pink, purple colours. Placing a mountain scenery, or a pile of stones here is beneficial.
NOTE: If your Entrance is in this sector then do not place the mountain scenery here.
The East Sector is for your health, and for the elders in your family. This belongs to the Wood element.
Adding green colour here, any shade of green, is very auspicious. As are blue and black colours.
Plants in this sector are very auspicious.
Playing soothing, uplifting music in this sector is also beneficial.
The South-East Sector is for your finances and assets. This belongs to the Wood element.
Adding green colour here, any shade of green, is very auspicious. As are blue and black colours.
Plants in this sector are very auspicious. Place a three-legged tortoise sitting on a bed of coins, and having a coin in it’s mouth, in this sector. Do not place directly on the floor.
NOTE: Ensure it is facing into the house, to bring the wealth in. (it should not face a window, or a door leading to the outside).
The South Sector is for name and fame. It is for recognition. This belongs to the Fire element.
Adding reds, purples, pinks, oranges is beneficial. As is green colour. Increase the light in this area. Add some candles. Place something in an auspicious colour, triangle shape.
NOTE: Do not overdo adding the Fire element.
The South-West Sector is for relationships.
All kinds of relationships, but especially between a couple. This sector is also for the matriarch of the family.
It belongs to the Earth element.
Adding Earth tones- yellow, cream, beige, and items of pottery, ceramic, crystals, stone, etc are beneficial. As are red, orange, pink, purple colours. Place a pair of love birds, or two ducks. Do not place any picture, figurine depicting a fight or a war. Avoid unhappy, angry images in this sector.
NOTE: Place things in pairs in this sector to enhance your relationships.
The West Sector is for creativity and children. It belongs to the Metal element. Adding metallic colours to enhance this sector. Earth colours eg. Yellow, cream, beige are also beneficial. Place some metallic object here. Ensure it does not have sharp edges.
NOTE: The best object for this sector is a round, metal object which is not menacing looking.
The North-West sector is for Heaven’s Blessings. And for the patriarch of the family. It belongs to the Metal element. Adding metallic colours to enhance this sector. Earth colours eg. Yellow, cream, beige are also beneficial. Place some metallic object here. Place a large stone in this sector. If you like, add some gold colour to it.( Before placing this stone wash it first with sea salt and water. Then, rinse it off very well, ensuring there are no traces of the salt left on it).
NOTE: Avoid Fire element in this sector. The kitchen should not be in this direction.

OMG!! I had not much ideas about feng shui. If I’d know these points before coloring my flat. Though at North-West I selected yellow but on West it’s light pink. Whatever, next time I must keep all these points in my mind.
